 The Wild Elephant Valley is located in Sachahe, the south part of Mengyang Natural Reserve, or 50 kilometers away from Jinghong, the capital city of Xishuangbanna (Banna) Prefecture. In Sanchahe area, elephants frequently haunt, thus the name. Banna is the unique are in China where one can see wild elephants; to Dai people in Banna, elephant is a symbol of auspiciousness, brisk, might, and longevity, etc; Dais there have been going well with them for centuries.The Park was first started in 1990 for the sightseeing of wild elephants and tropical rainforests, and was opened to visitors in 1996.
