Without a railway, Dunhuang has to rely on Liuyuan Railway Station to evacuate passengers. The station locates in Anxi county, which is 128 kilometers away to the north of Dunhuang. 16 trains pass there everyday directly to the cities of Shanghai, Beijing, Zhengzhou, Xi'an, Chengdu, Lanzhou, Jiayuguan, Hami, Tulufan, Kurle, Shanshan, Urumqi, Akesu, etc. in peak period, the station can not only add carriages to the trains, but also open new special trains for tourism on line Liuyuan-Hami-ulufan-Kurle-Shanshan-Urumqi and "Jiugang" special touring train on line Yumen-Jiayuguan-Jiuquan. Buses and taxis carry passengers out of or to the station day and night.
