Jinshanling Great Wall is located in Luanping County,
Hebei Province. It is built in 1368 (the 1st year in the reign of Emperor Hongwu, Ming Dynasty) and rebuilt when Qi Jiguang, a famous general in Ming Dynasty, stayed here two hundreds years later. It is a strategic place and well protected, which is the essence of the Great Wall. In January 1988, Jinshanling Great Wall was approved as one of the third group units which need to give particular protection to national important relics. In 1991, it is recognized as the national scenic spot and the first level tourist site.
On the Jinshanling Great Wall of about 20 km long, five passes and two beacon towers are built. Two-storied watch-towers are built at approximately 400-meters intervals. The top stories of the watch-towers were designed for observing enemy movements, while the first was used for storing grain, fodder, military equipment and gunpowder as well as for quartering garrison soldiers. Many marvelous landscapes are showing: "Climbing the Ladder to Heaven", Hot Spring, "Wall of Words" and so on.
In recent years, a gold touring line is launched which takes the Imperial Summer Resort and Outer Eight Temple as the center, Jinshanling Great Wall and bashing Grassland as the importance. The Jinshanling Great Wall is attracting more and more visitors from China and foreign countries bases on its superior geographic position and peculiar characteristic.
