Located in Fenghua, 35km from Ningbo, the Xuedou Mountain Scenic Site is one of the major scenic spots under the protection of the state. As early as in the Han Dynasty, it was praised as "Penglai on the Sea, Exotic Flower on the Land." The whole site is composed of 3 regions: Xikou, Xuedou Mountain and Tingxia Lake featuring respectively historical relics, natural views, Buddhist culture, green mountains and clear water. Xikou, the ancient town of hundreds of years, is famous both at home and abroad for it is the hometown of Mr. Jiang Jieshi. There are many spots relating with the former residence of Mr. Jiang in Xikou. Surrounded by lots of mountains, the Xuedou Mountain is one of the Five Major Buddhist Mountains in China, on which many paths crisscross. Every year, it sees so many tourists visiting the famous scenic spots on it including the Miaogao Terrace, Qianzhang Cliff Waterfall, the Xufu Cliff, the Sanyin Pond and even the Xuedou Temple-the rite of Monk Maitreya as well as one of the Ten Great Chanzong Temple in the World. The large Tingxia Lake, formed as a result of the construction of the reservoir, attracts the tourists with charming natural views, strange peaks and peaceful valleys.
