Covering an area about 4 square km, the Shanglin Lake Scenic Spot is located in Cixi of Ningbo. To the south of the lake lies the Kaolao Mountain, also called the Immortal's House Mountain. The Kaolao Mountain, covered with green trees, spread with imposing waterfalls, encircled with thick moist and mists, looks like a fairyland. A valley lies between two peaks, through which rushes the Kaolao Stream. Up till now, more than 120 ancient Yue Kiln relics have been found around the lake, the age of which ranges from the Eastern Han Dynasty to the late Tang Dynasty. It has been proved that the Shanglin Lake area is the birthplace of the Chinese china, which is now one of the major historical relics under the protection of the state. All the unearthed celadon ware is blue gazed eggshell celadon, which looks like the jade, feels like the ice. It has also been proved that the Chinese celadon ware made in the Yue Kiln in the Shanglin Lake has been spread far away to many countries of Southeast Asia and Africa. The famous "China Road on the Sea" is thus formed.
