70km to the west of Anxi county, Suoyang City is also called Kuyu City. It is named after the sweet and delicious cynomoriun (In Chinese Pinyin, Suoyang) growing around the city. Suoyang city was first constructed in Han Dynasty, and the extant fortress was built at the beginning of Tang Dynasty, which is of high value in view of historical archaeology research. Comprised of two parts-East and West City, the City itself is very grand and spectacular, with the West City covering an area of 165,000 square meters, the East 17,000 square meters. And its wall is 9 meters in height and 5 meters in width. The suburban area covers 800,000 square meters. Outside the City, bacon towers, arrow towers and watch towers extend for several li. It was a military fortress with a long history of over 1,400 years. It was said that, Xue Rengui, a general of Tang Dynasty, and his forces were once besieged in the City, and at that time they were lack of food. The general found that the cynomorium growing around the City is eatable, so he ordered the soldiers to dig cynomorium for food. Thus the City was named "Suoyang City".
