The Cultural Square, which evolved from the Dizhigong Square, is the largest open area in
Changchun City. It is located at the center of the city, covering 20.5 hectares. In history, the square was the main public gathering place for the puppet Manchukuo regime. The main north-south road runs from the center of Xinminzhu Street to the main building of the square, the central axis line being 420 meters long. From south to north are ranged in order the main exit of the square, the south-north main road; and the sunbird statue. In the north is an open-air music forum, with the 10,000-square-meter front square of the main building traversing the east-west main road. At the northern end is the main building of Dizhigong. The roads are laid with granite stones, creating a natural, solemn and steady impression. Flowers and grass are planted along the central square on both sides of the roads, covering 40,000 square meters. Some 3,000 pigeons are kept in the square, adding life to it.
