
The original Confucius Temple in Chongzhou city was built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), but the present Confucius Temple was re-built in the Qing Dynasty. The magnificent temple is a key historical site under provincial protection, and one of the four well-preserved temples in Sichuan Province and a unique one in
Chengdu. It occupies an area of over 10 mu, with a floor space of 2,400 square meters. In the Dacheng and Qisheng halls and eastern and western chambers there were 60 sculptures of Confucius and of his parents and students. On the door frames were inscribed over 100 of Confucius' quotations.
