In the East Han Dynasty (25-220) Zhang Ling resigned from his post to live reclusively in Qingcheng Mountain. At the time, local people believed in witchcraft. Zhang Ling, based on "Daodejing" (the Way and its Virtue) written by the ancient philosopher Lao Zi, and by improving the witchcraft, created the Chinese religion-Taoism. There are over 20 Taoist temples on Qingcheng Mountain, scattered from the mountain foot to the top. And the founder of Taoism Master Zhang Ling rose to Heaven. Since then, later generations of Taoist masters and disciples have cherished it as a great honor to make the pilgrimage to Qigncheng Mountain. Qingcheng Mountain is a holy place for Taoist believers.
